The consensual sex industry is one of the oldest industries in the world. The act of women and men consensually exchanging their bodies for payment is perhaps as old as the evolution of our own genitalia. Despite that historical observation, the individuals we know today, who consensually decide to use their bodies for sex, are some of the most disrespected and unprotected individuals in society. In this volume of It’s A look, we sit down with documentarian, photographer, and sex worker ally Rachel Lena Esterline, and in doing so are able to see behind her lens on sex work in the Bay Area. Viewer discretion is advised as we delve deep into, the role of sex work in the feminist agenda, how U.S. legislation is negatively impacting sex workers, and what we can all learn from sex workers.
